Enjoying autumn

The warmth of the summer is still lingering in our region but
it is more than evident that autumn is in full swing.
This season has always delighted me and I’m in awe of all
the changes around me.
Staying in the moment through it all is really worthwhile.

Heading to my veranda with some new flea finds, a blanket, some
quinces and my last roses, put a little bit of excitement up in my
afternoon, this is what I was looking for on a drab Sunday.
We have already scrubbed down the most of the outdoor furniture
and placed it in the attic. Bulky items have been covered up and the
space looks gloomily empty. Nevertheless, every time I go upstairs
I am impressed by the improvement of the plants
once the weather turned cooler.

Our white bougainvilleas seem to appreciate the chiller mornings
and the low-lying sun. Foliages have enhanced their green color
and jasmine fills the air with its piercingly sweet scent.

The Dutch enamel kettle and my china floral teapot helped me to create
an autumnal display together with the wild cyclamens, roses and
greenery animating this way the devoid of life roof terrace.
Such a shame that we are not able anymore to enjoy the outside space,
sometimes it would be perfect to do so.

This vivid autumn palette proves that autumn can be beautifully
being experienced. Nature has still some flings before settling down
into winter’s sleep. In the meanwhile I am here to savor the season
of harvest, winterize my home and outwit the challenges
of the upcoming season.

Wishing you the loveliest autumn days

My first afghan

An open air bazaar is yearly held in my husband’s home town
on the occasion of the patron saint celebrations.
It’s an important event even if it does not appeal to me.
However, the youngest member of our family finds it very funny
and cool and never wants to miss it. It’s actually a huge fair, a street
market and regardless if you are going to buy something or not,
sometimes a walk among the stands can be revealing.
She was determined to spend her pocket money on trifles,
that is what she did. I come to the point.

Five euros for five skeins of yarn, an inspiring gift for the mom!
It automatically made it all worthwhile. Cheap yarn, not so bad after
all, chosen by my girl! That’s how I have got around to starting
this afghan, my first one.

I bought some grey yarn to join the squares and here it is!
Despite autumn’s fall the sun keeps shining and my little blanket
was exposed outdoors, on the roof terrace and in the garden.

Experienced crocheters will certainly find many mistakes but it is
inevitable in crocheting, isn’t it? I'm not sure which house this blanket
will end up in ... Maybe in the country home; it will fit perfectly well in
our rural living room I think.

If you have read my blog for a while, you will know that I willingly
succumb to the charm of a real and authentic autumn season
that is not our case, alas! Indian summer has
no intention of surrendering…
Isn’t it time to go inside, put a large sweater on, take a warm cup
of tea and curl up with a book? Counting on the cozy feeling
of my little afghan, hope fall will finally make a decent appearance!
Sending some of that superfluous sunshine where there is need of!

Autumn afternoon in the country

In our district, citrus trees go through a sequence of growth
phases and we can have multiple crops at the same time.
Lemons picked at their silver-green stage can have
 a long post-harvest life.

The little bouquet I’m showing you is quite humble but since the
flourishing stage has come to an end and we are heading towards
colder days the most of the gardens are looking exhausted .Ours too.
Difficult to extend the blooming season
in a garden you visit once a week!

So, by the end of the weekend we usually visit our country home as we have
to keep watering citrus trees and bushes. Our area is still in drought
conditions despite recent rains but watering has become a very enjoyable
activity for me. Not only that! Pottering outside, tidying up the autumn
garden is really uplifting and time flies like an arrow…
So last weekend, we spent some busy but quiet hours in the backyard,
enjoying the balmy early October weather. The garden was shining under
the soft sunshine and a leafy lemon aroma was spread through the air.

I’m always in a hurry to complete my chores, grasp my camera and take
as many shots as possible. In the meanwhile, my husband who has green
fingers is still working hard relieving me of the burden to keep on.

Fresh flowers cut straight from my own garden
can make me happier than a florist composition, I confess!

May I stay keen on gardening and photos and fond of composing
texts in English so that I will not quit this blog I have been
so excited about. In fact, it’s all about those good, happy vibes
I’m sending and receiving each time I post...
Thank you so much for visiting me and leaving your kind
comments, they just light up my space like this little bouquet!
Wishing you all the best
