  6. Oh, you make me want to go back to Greece RIGHT AWAY! I sometimes wonder if the Greek flag is blue and white because of the beautiful sea and the white houses. I suppose that is not the real reason.

    1. No Jenny, this is not the officially version but it can certainly be explained by this.
The significance of the blue and white colors according to Wikipedia:
Usages cited include the pattern of blue and white formations (created from placing white metal layers on a blue surface) on the shield of Achilles, the connection of the colors with goddess Athena, Alexander the Great's army banners, blue and white flags supposedly used during Byzantine times, supposed coats of arms of imperial dynasties and noble families, uniforms, emperors' clothes, patriarchs' thrones etc....

  24. Wow! Olympia, you look really nice with the hat on in the picture.

We made a Greek island tour two years ago ( Mykonos, Paros, Santorini, Chrete, we stayed 5 days on each island): gorgeous, just as you describe it above. We have a fond memory of the boat trips, the food, the beaches, the people.

We like the island of Paros best.

Whereabouts do you live in Greece?

  26. Did you know that blue and white are Finland's colors as well. We have blue and white in our flag. We have blue sky and thousands of lakes and white snow. Those are beautiful colors. Greece is beautiful and warm. Now, it's as warm here in Finland as in Greece. I just love it!

  27. I feel like I've been to Heaven! Beautiful... beautiful pictures! I love Greece... I love everything about it. The islands are so beautiful, with the bright blue roofs, the steps, the beautiful bouganvillla creeping onto the white washed walls! SO MUCH BEAUTY! But... I'm in Italy, so I shouldn't complain!

  38. Oh Olympia - the Cyclades!!! This post brings memories back, back to the time when I was visiting for years Mykonos. The light, the empty beaches, beaches which could be only reached by boat or bus and walking over hills.....
Not to forget the wonderful local people I've met during the years. Greeks who always welcomed me and my friends or whoever I was traveling with, welcomed in a way as I belong to their family.
So, I'm so happy to have you as a "blog friend", giving me the chance for a "trip" to Greece, even if only by "armchair-traveling"!
But - would pack my bag 'tout de suite' - if I only could! Best time for me was always mid to late September, not many tourists, well - in the old days.
Kept this wonderful post for the end of my blog-traveling, and just say Thank YOU, Merci, Danke!
    Karin
