Autumn shades

I do love fall...

but September has succumbed to the summer’s charms
so that we still have mild, dry weather and a lot of
sunshine, a prolonged Indian summer...

Anyway, autumn is in my heart...
the changing fall foliage, its turn to
golden hues and the flowers fleeting beauty
never fails to surprise and delight me.

The only resistant flowers I can still use for picking
are Zinnia, Justicia plant, yellow daisies and some foliage
like this white one my mum calls “snow flower”
but it certainly isn't a valid name for it.

Fall blooming flowers come in rich amber shades and extend
the gardening season despite fading and wilting…

The last autumn bouquets keep the beauty of the warm
sunny days and cheer up my coffee table in the city
garden where there is nothing other than green.

Let’s hope that October brings us
everything to do with
a u t u m n...
soon!

Warm ,dark colours, hot beverages,
cosiness

and this is definitely apple pie season !!!

I do love everything having to do with apples,
grated lemon zest and pie.

This is my way to say hallo to the new season which
still doesn’t dare to reveal itself in all its glory!

The red colour of this apple pie is due to an Italian liqueur
called “Alchermes” which is mainly used in colouring pastry
and very difficult to find anywhere else except Italy,
but I have my own secret caterer!

Yellow roses from the terrace

A yellow paper flower, my daughter’s new mania

So, I’m warmly welcoming October, its cooler days, its crisp nights,
the lighting of the fireplace, the wintry look of the house…
in a regenerating, refreshing mood.

It’s so sweet to leave such interesting and friendly comments,
I thank you all for visiting me, I really appreciate it.

Like little schoolchildren

Entering our home office...

The nature of our work, teaching for me ,court cases and
judicial matters for my husband constrain us to an annual schedule
different of other people. Each September means a new beginning
for us and we go back to serious work feeling like the little boys
who return to their school, a little anxious but also with relief
after a break which has started to get boring.

We bought two new chairs,
“Mademoiselle” covered with Missoni fabric and
“Moorea”  in grey, both of them by Kartell.
I really feel better with this light makeover!

Ever since I started work, I have taken advantage of
this excitement to provide new office supplies.
Our work presupposes long hours of work at our home office
and this is my excuse to explore all the bookshops and
stationers in the area  in search of new stuff!
Of course, I usually go over my budget but this is how
it works every year and I can do nothing to change it!

Erasers which look like nuts, pencil sharpeners, binders
like clothes pins, highlighters, cute boxes containing everything
you can imagine, untouched notebooks , sweets and chewing
gum with antistress effect, all this seems like a shallow
effective way to restart our activities with fun.

We still see the mercury climb to 30 Celsius even at 8pm
and it stays there comfortably until late at night.
This prolonged hot and dry weather is not exactly that
I would like for my mental reset but we are used to it.

This little humble bunch is made from
what still exists in the garden!

Nothing without technology!

Wishing you a good and dynamic start to the new week
and sending you my sweet thoughts…

A visit to grandma

We are used to having Sunday lunch at grandma’s, my husband’s
mum, and we always do it with pleasure enjoying her
hospitality and company. She is a person full of energy and
still keeps cool despite her 85 years and her widowhood.
She likes crocheting and her chair in the garden path almost
invariably offers images like the first I’m showing you.
My daughter, exploring her closets, discovered this lovely
terracotta basket which comes from her mother-in-law.
So very old, a family heirloom with sentimental value.
My little girl, in her childish way, picked a bunch
of what still survives the season.

It hasn’t rained a drop for more than five months
but autumn feeling leads our mood in very fresh tracks…

Faded, wilted roses…

Under the old grape vine

Back to serious work for both of us starting today…
The new season brings changes and I’m ready for them.
Hope you feel the subtle regenerator touch of autumn…
 it’s coming…

Love
O
