Still in summer mood...

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun,
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run…
                                        John Keats (1820)

The summer feeling is still hovering in the air but..

the hot summer is over...

A little crop from our old grapevine and the some figs
placed on the old scales of the grandparents,
have been served to create a shot of farewell to the
lovely and happy summer 2013.

the light is lower,

nevertheless, we are here to enjoy a wonderful
Indian summer
which will introduce us gently and softly into
the new period. Nothing to complain about!

In Greek phthinoporo = autumn means the season where
there is less fruit and vegetables.
Τhe season of colors, flavors and fragrances,
the season of the grape harvest …

Lazy, carefree moments on the roof terrace
before the first rains appear and we have to abandon it!

We continue having supper al fresco, we were
joined by some close friends recently. It’s now fresher
in the garden and the kids can move easily and enjoy
their last free days as school opens on 11th September.

Our oranges are green now but their skin will
turn orange when the weather cools.

Most blogfriends have returned and I’m sending
to all of you my warmest greetings and wishes
for the new season we have ahead.
Loving Fall...

  1. What a stunning post! I truly believe your pictures of grapes and figs (which represent late summer and the onset of autumn to me) are like Flemish still lives.

The light is lower and I think we all like to savour these final glorious days.

    Happy Fall to you too!

  2. Here summer also seems to be over, I hope we will have a wonderful Indian summer!

Summer is my favorite season, saying goodbye is always heavy and the way to autumn always takes effort ;-).

    Big hugs, Ingrid

  3. The light is softer these days in the Pacific Northwest as well. The autumn is approaching on tip-toes this year, advancing and retreating, taunting us with what is to come. Happy Autumn - beautiful post.
    xo Jackie

  4. We are also enjoying an Indian Summer - and long may it continue for all of us. I love the light at this time of year which you have captured beautifully. I am alway sorry to see the summer slip away, but this year she is going gently which makes her departure so much easier to cope with.

  11. Welcome back, Olympia! Autumn indeed is coming, and soon, the days will grow shorter. I intend to savor every remaining summer minute. Thanks for sharing your beautiful photos and bountiful vignettes.

  12. Welcome back home dear Olympia. What lovely pictures you show us. I have never eaten fresh figs, only dried ones. I think it is a big difference.
I love your stole on the chair!
    Donna G.

  13. Love the colours in your pictures and the whole styling. You are a master at that! I always only photograph things as I find them. Love the arrangements in your photographs, beautiful pictures to celebrate the end of a lovely summer.

  14. What wonderful golden grapes. The gold and purple go so well together, quite regal!

  15. Your table looks beautiful! We are loving autumn in Greece........ the fruit is the best we have ever tasted!! x

  16. Wonderful light! Your beautiful photos are full of athmosphere!

    Lieve groet,

  18. I love the Greek description of autumn. Your grapes and figs look so fantastic and the light and styling are superb.
    Sarah x

  20. Dearest Olympia,
What a lovely post about the farewell to summer! Wish we could harvest such grapes and figs. One year we had lots of grapes but when we left for a trip of several days, the birds stole them ALL. No fun watching that! The figs were few this year and they did all burst open from the heavy tropical rains day after day... A pity to watch.
Enjoy your supper al fresco while it lasts. We too enjoy our gazebo and balcony; finally after months of heavy rain we have had now two lovely weeks so far.
    Hugs to you,

  21. honestly do not know how many times I've scrolled up and down.
    Beautiful warm impressions.
The mood is you absolutely succeeded.
Figs and grapes in addition to sit down on one of your beautiful squares and enjoy. Unfortunately my figs in the garden are not ripe. To the correct harvest I will have to wait a good 2 years (it is a young little stem) so I'm going to get the fruit traders have to buy some.
Have you so much for the great photos.
Wish you a beautiful September day!
    Greetings, Moni

  22. Hello Olympia. September light is wonderful, I can see it in your photos. My son started school today, everything returns to normal. Here, the "Indian Summer" we call "the little summer of St. Martin", but that happens in November. Hugs :D

  23. Lovely images, Olympia- I enjoyed every one! The fruits and flowers and your lovely table setting, too. This is a wonderful time of year - cooler, with lovely scents of ripened fruit. Wishing you a beautiful Indian summer.
    xo Hugs

  24. WOW ! Olympia, this is such a wonderfully warm and summery post ... Gorgeous! I love both - figs and grapes. I can´t imagine how it must be to reap all this from your own garden ... great!
Have a nice evening - hugs, Christine

  25. What beautiful photographs { I LOVE figs } and a beautiful harvest. .... and, as much as I love the warm Summer months, Autumn is a wonderful season. We sometimes get some lovely weather at this time of year but, I feel a chill in the air but, I don't mind ..... I love getting my jackets, coats and boots out !!
Thanks so much for your lovely comment and have a wonderful week. XXXX

  26. I am drifting slowly into the autumn mood, but I guess in Greece summer lasts longer, the same way as it is in Dalmatia! Enjoy summer fruits and spirt and when you get to feel nostalgic pop up to Zagreb, it is the most beautiful in the autumn :-))

  27. Lieve Olympia,

  28. Dearest Olympia,
I love the light summer days later - and you captured it wonderfully in your pictures: Very nice, warm colors, so sft and beautiful!
I am glad that the HOT summer is over and now started the mild-warm days!
    Hugs from Austria, Traude

  29. Your pictures are so beautiful, stylish and well taken, that you should make a book of them. Happy Wednesday, Olympia!

  30. Dear Olympia,

what a wonderful and warm post with beautiful pictures and delicious fruits.
Just in moment it´s cold and stormy - typical autumn weather.
I like this season not so much.
But what shall I do. I make the best with this time.
I enjoy your wonderful pictures :0)

    Heartly Hugs

    Your Bluemchenmama

  34. Olympia,

I know it's late, (11:50 pm, to be exact!), and my eyesight is a little blurry from staring at this screen for too many hours, BUT, I could have sworn your beautiful photos were the works of still life artists!! You are a talented stylist, my friend. Gorgeous, luscious fruit never looked so aesthetically pleasing to the eye! A wonderful fall preview, thank you!

  35. WOW! lovely and beautiful photos!!!
    Hugs Sofia

  37. Beautiful images.
Summer is fading here and I'm looking forward to autumn.

  38. It is still hot here too! Just look at those lovely daughter so wants some fresh ones but they are hard to find. Thank you for always visiting me...happy weekend.

  39. I just bought fresh figs and I marvel at the sweetness and delicate texture of this fruit !
Your post is as lovely as ever, photographs are delight to look at...I am sending You my Florida sun, still hot,but I can see the subtle changes telling me Autumn is coming...
Hugs from here Dear Olympia !

  40. Love your blog post saying goodbye to summer. Hello autumn! - also a lovely season with glorious colours.
Thanks for your visits and have a good week!
    xoxo Ingrid
