Grilling on the rooftop

Easter has just passed here in Greece, with red eggs,
spit-roasted lamb, sweetbreads and all related,
classically and traditionally as every year.
The Holy week is always a super busy time and notwithstanding
the fact that the Easter festive lunch was the responsibility
of my brother, there were a lot of things to do or
to check out that kept me away from my laptop and
your blogs. Hope you don’t mind.

So, we experienced a different sensation this time,
roasting a whole lamp on the rooftop of my brother’s home.
An urban “adventure” indeed! Cooking a whole lamb isn't
the sort of thing you just decide to do one morning.
And on the rooftop!

Who could possibly imagine that a neurologist would also
showcase excellent surgeon skills? I can assure you that
it takes a good deal of planning and preparation.
My brother sewed the lamb with thoroughness and
did all this laborious job alone,
despite being a beginner! We enjoyed a hassle-free lunch
on their roof terrace, feeling good with the sea-breeze
and the warming April sunshine.
Not forgetting the amazingly well organised reception
by my brother’s wife, who knows how to focus
on experiences of togetherness.

Coffee was served inside as we were all begging for a
comfortable sofa after a heavy but extra delicious lunch.

I thank God for the incredibly blessed life I live
and for those who surround me with their love.
Hope that you are also okay and have shared some
s p e c i a l  m o m e n t s
with your beloved ones.
O

  1. Lieve Olympia,

    Kalo Pascha!!!

    Lieve groet,Ger

  3. These are the best moments, in this case a festive lunch with relatives for Easter. How exciting this occurred to be grilling a lamb on the rooftop under the Greek sun.
Wish you a happy new week!

What a glorious day, all over Greece, to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, with family, friends, food, and fun! Your flower bouquets are so bold and beautiful, and I'm sure, made a pretty accompaniment to the wonderful meal, shared by all.

  7. Hello dear Olympia, what a beautiful post and such lovely photos as well! I have a recipe by Paul Hollywood for a plaited bread with red boiled eggs placed on top to symbolise the blood of Christ, I haven't made it yet but I can't wait to try it out next year! Easter is certainly a time to spend with family enjoying each other and being ever so grateful for a life well lived. Blessings to you dear Olympia! Sharon x

Wow, what a feast and setting. All is so superb from he table setting to the roof-top grill. It seems like you just had to "show-up" and how wonderful those get together are for those who entertain and are now entertained.
Your beautiful prayer of gratitude speaks volumes. Happy Easter.

  15. wow, roasted lamb on the rooftop, sounds great! It looks like you had such a nice Easter with your family. I had all my family here as well. That pie looks amazing, I wish I could have a slice. I love the picture of the flowers with the tea pot, it's so pretty. And look at all these gorgeous vibrant flowers. The bowl with the green eggs caught my eye too, it's lovely.

    Have a beautiful week, Olympia.

  19. Ma tu sei incredibile! Stai facendo un lavoro solo per me? Pensavo che ci sarebbe qualche vecchio dipinto qualche parte. Non so cosa dire e come ringraziarti. Mi sento un 'po perplessa.

  21. Dear Olympia,
late Easter Greetings to you and your family.
Your Easter lunch sounds and looks divine.. with the whole lamb on the spit.
No wonder you needed a soft couch to flop onto...looks like some nice ones there in your brothers house.
We are truly blessed when we have family together at these special times.
Our Easter was a happy one. This year, we decided to eat out.
    A lovey post Olympia

  22. A rooftop BBQ? What could be more pleasant way to spend the Easter holidays! That lamb looked scrumptious and the view just a gorgeous! We had our first BBQ of the year 2 nights ago - ribs and sweet potatoes. Delish!
